Archetype Summary
Exordio del Duelista did an amazing job with the following summary slides. Please check out the full video here which includes game play and how to pilot the deck.

Strengths
- Powerful monsters (Destiny HERO Phoenix Enforcer [reusable individual card destruction], Masked HERO Dark Law [banish], Destiny HERO Plasma [negate effects], Evil HERO Malicious Bane [board wipe])
- Lots of search cards (Reinforcement of the Army, E-Emergency Call, Xtra HERO Cross Crusader, Elemental HERO Stratos, Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, Vision HERO Increase)
- Good number of starters and extenders
- Surprise OTKs
- Draw options (Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier, Destiny Draw, Destiny HERO Disk Commander, Destiny HERO Celestial)
- Many ways to pitch monsters to grave
- Monsters commonly have 2 abilities which are really strong (Elemental HERO Stratos, Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, Elemental HERO Solid Soldier, Xtra HERO Cross Crusader, Vision HERO Faris, Vision HERO Vyon, etc)
- Decent grave pitching targets (Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, Destiny HERO Malicious, Destiny HERO Denier)
Weaknesses
- No in archetype protection for boss monsters (Elemental HERO Honest Neos is the only response)
- Very susceptible to hand traps (brittle combos that leave effectively open boards if negated)
- Xeno-locks (cards lock you into archetype – Xtra HERO Cross Crusader, Vision HERO Faris, Fusion Destiny)
- Normal summon reliant – Vision HERO Faris helps, but requires additional support
- Only 1 good Link monster (Xtra HERO Cross Crusader), but it depends on Destiny HEROs
- No board breaking tools
- Draw options are situational
- Weak back row solutions (Elemental HERO Stratos, Destiny HERO Celestial)
- Fusion reliant
- Main deck doesn’t threaten
- Good cards are in the Extra deck (beware Extra deck sealing)
- Linear play style
Win Conditions
Impactful Cards
![]() | The ability to destroy opponent’s cards and resurrect itself can be incredibly difficult for some decks to out. |
![]() | Indestructible and a board wipe. This card is difficult for some decks to out. Evil HERO Adusted Gold discards itself to get Dark Calling, which can then get this card. This is easy extension. |
![]() | Puts powerful monsters on the field while setting up the graveyard for further extension. |
Competitive Deck Lists
Pak w/ N3sh did a great job showing how a successful competitor (multiple tops at YCS including 1st place), goes through building a HERO deck. He covers the thought process, iteration, and challenging assumptions.

Rogue Hero
Vlog that covers his experiences using HEROs competitively at tournaments (locals, regionals, etc).
Avengers
This deck list aims to go second against the current meta (Branded-Despia, Swordsoul, Floowandereeze, and S.A.D.). The focus is on breaking established boards, but not necessarily OTK-ing. Super Polymerization and Forbidden Droplets both negate monsters and helps dodge Skill Drain (as well as other board based negates).

H3ro of L3gend
Vlog that covers deck profiles, combos, theory crafting, locals top decks. He is unusually crafty in the HERO space, as his decks genuinely tests the new cards at tournaments and gives feedback. Each deck profile has a different theme and unusual ratios which catch opponents off-guard and provide great sources of innovation.
One Punch
This deck embraces HERO’s going second OTK philosophy. There is no grind strategy, it’s all in on the OTK. Key things to note, no Elemental HERO Honest Neos, the intent to avoid having a single dead card in hard.

Jaden BR
Releases HERO strategies and tests new HERO cards on EdoPro.
Robust HEROs
This deck leverages Destiny HERO – Dark Angel to prevent the opponent from using Spells on their first turn while also having Destiny HERO Phoenix Enforcer and Masked HERO Dark Law. Also note the inclusion of Destiny HERO Dominance which can pair well with Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier (together they act like Pot of Prosperity). This deck can also go second and OTK.

Casual Deck Lists
JHERO YG

Innovative online warrior. He explores all the HERO cards and finds niche interractions which show case the potential of all the HERO cards as they come out. He crafts both competitive and casual decks
[Unreleased] Neo-Avengers HERO (Casual)
This decklist contains 1 card unreleased in the TCG (EN Shuffle). It does give an interesting perspective on what a near future HERO deck can look like.

Destiny HEROs (Casual)
The latest ban-list no longer provides a reliable way of seeing Rapid Trigger, so this decklist is focused on theme and consistency. It uses Destiny HEROs to flood the field with big monsters with nasty effects as well as drawing cards a lot. This strategy heavily relies on OTK-ing (Destiny HERO Dominance into Destiny HERO Dreadmaster or Vision HERO Trinity).

Combos

Bread and Butter
Every HERO player should know this line of play, as it generates the greatest value for the archetype.

Choke Points
This section identifies your hand trap magnets. Since HEROs are a fusion based strategy, Polymerization is the crux of the deck. Unlike Invoker or Branded strategies, this Archetype has no in theme fusion protection.
![]() | The most important effect to stop is the ignition search for Polymerization. If you can stop the on summon effect to send to graveyard this will significantly stop extension. |
![]() | Destroy or banish this card when it is in the Spell/Trap zone after it tributes a HERO for cost. The HERO player not only loses 2 monsters, but also loses access to the combo line needed to get to Polymerization. |
![]() | HEROs only play one copy and once it’s in the graveyard the only way to get it back takes 3 monsters (summoning to a zone Xtra HERO Wonder Driver points to). Once negated, the HERO player is cut-off from combo lines with Elemental HERO Sunrise or any means to control the board. |
Playing Under Nibiru (4 or Less Summons)
The HERO strategy has no in archetype way to prevent to this board wipe, hand trap. Furthermore, coming back from it rarely happens. To avoid this, you can setup sub-optimal boards that avoid the 5 summon condition which triggers the board wipe.

Strategies
This section covers the deck building splits within the community and what people use to make the decision which best fits their personal style.
Vision HERO Increase Ratios
The community is split between 2 or 1 Vision HERO Increase. The decision breaks down to risk aversion and normal summon of choice. You only need 1 Vision HERO Increase in the grave, and you only care to have Vision HERO Increase succeed once from the Vision HERO Faris combo. The problem stems from Vision HERO Faris requiring Vision HERO Increase to be in the deck (not your hand). Vision HERO Faris has no other useful targets to set in the spell / trap zone. The chance you will see Vision HERO Increase in the beginning of the game with a 40 card deck is:
Vision HERO Increase in Deck | Opening Hand | Going Second |
---|---|---|
1 | 12.5% | 15% |
2 (chance of seeing both) | 1.3% | 2% |
Some feel that the Vision HERO Faris combo is not critical, and are ok with just having Vision HERO Faris act as an extender and Vision HERO Increase can be discard fodder in the worst case. These decks tend to favor Vision HERO Vyon at 3 (which is another discussion). By choosing to have Vision HERO Vyon as their normal summon (instead of Elemental HERO Stratos), these decks favor getting Masked HERO Dark Law on the field
3x Elemental HERO Stratos Versus 3x Vision HERO Vyon

Pros
- Searcher or destroys back row (which the archetype struggles against)
- Can get Vision HERO Faris which is the bread and butter combo, as well as can fix hands.
Cons
- Give up extra deck slot to Masked HERO Blast, such that Mask Change can be used to dodge targeted or board based negation. This fusion monster does not advance your strategy or circumstance.
- Innately doesn’t get you to your end board
- All search cards can get you an Elemental HERO Stratos (E-Emergency Call, Reinforcement of the Army, A HERO Lives), therefore you don’t need as many copies

Pros
- Mask Change makes this into Masked HERO Dark Law which is a win condition
- Only direct searcher for the 1-of Polymerization
- Can be a searcher if you pitch Elemental HERO Shadow Mist
- Can create extension by pitching Destiny HERO Malicious or Destiny HERO Denier.
Cons
- Already part of the Bread and Butter combo. If it goes uninterrupted, you get Vision HERO Vyon already.
The HERO strategy is very normal summon reliant. The biggest impacting factors are:
- Do you need the 1 slot of extra deck flexibility?
- Are you ok with using A HERO Lives, E-Emergency Call, and Reinforcement of the Army to get Elemental HERO Stratos?
- Are you ok with committing your normal summon to Vision HERO Vyon to better ensure his effects go off (pitching a HERO and searching for Polymerization)?

Beware Of These Cards
- Nibiru, the Primal Being this board wipe is a nearly unrecoverable event. HEROs easily go past 5 summons and become vulnerable since there are no in archetype negations accessible (Contrast HERO Chaos is too situational to get out)
- Skill Drain, Secrete Village of the Spellcasters, Mystic Mine, etc. – these persistent floodgates can render your board unplayable.
- TheCaliEffect shows how easily the best HERO boards can be broken in this video with common cards. HEROs are blind go 2nd OTK machines.
Counters for Your Opponent’s Counters
- Forbidden Droplets – this card triples as board negation, hand fixing, and conditionally can be used with a normal summoned Elemental HERO Stratos to remove back row and protect the removal effect by removing Elemental HERO Stratos from the field.
- Twin Twisters – removes back row but also synergizes with putting Elemental HERO Shadow Mist, Destiny HERO Malicious, Destiny HERO Denier in the grave to use their effects). You have a 22.8% of this happening (assuming going 2nd and popular ratios).
- Crossout Designator – Hard to have the exact counter in hand, as long as you own the card and it’s in your deck, this will stop your opponent’s card.
- Prohibition – This is clearly a guess to stop hand traps, but you can also call critical cards your opponent needs like Eldlich the Golden Lord or Crystron Halqifibrax
Cards That Have Fallen Out Of Favor
- Elemental HERO Solid Soldier the effects are too conditional for tournament play where you will get interrupted often. Whatever your normal summon is, you will need a Mask Change target. It is better to keep your normal summon for Elemental HERO Stratos or Vision HERO Vyon (which are more reliable). The 2nd effect which interacts with cards like Polymerization, is more consistent with Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier (and it has a back row wipe Mask Change target).
- Isolde, Two Tales of the Noble Knights requires garnets (equipment spells which aren’t core to the strategy). It also conflicts with the xeno-lock from Vision HERO Faris (which gets you a lot of advantage, grave setup, and Polymerization). This was replaced by Xtra HERO Cross Crusader.
- Vision HERO Trinity thought he is a win condition, he’s inherently a -3 in card advantage for a 5000 attack monster that can only attack monsters 3 times. Though this can win games, it’s situational and takes up precious extra deck space. HEROs have so much damage that can be done without that it’s not needed to push for game. This space was often given up for Predaplant Verte Anaconda. Now that Predaplant Verte Anaconda is banned as of the latest list, it’ll be interesting to see what takes this slot.
